The success of a manufacturing or logistics investment in Hungary depends largely on its location. A good site speeds up permitting, lowers operating costs and makes recruitment easier.
1. Energy — the first question
In energy-intensive sectors — battery manufacturing, electronics, metalworking — the available grid capacity can decide the location. Clarify early in the search how much capacity is available now and how quickly it can be expanded.
2. Logistics
Access to suppliers and customers, the distance to the nearest motorway junction and rail connections all matter. Proximity to terminals linked to Eurasian rail freight can be an advantage for materials arriving from China.
3. Workforce
The local labour market, vocational training and commuting options largely determine recruitment success. For large projects, training partnerships are best prepared at the planning stage.
4. Permits and local relationships
The orderly regulatory environment of industrial parks and experienced park management can speed up permitting. A good relationship with the municipality matters throughout the life of the investment.
5. Cultural preparation
Differences between Hungarian and Chinese business culture — the pace of decision-making, communication style, the role of contracts — show up both in negotiations and in day-to-day operations. Both sides benefit from preparing for them consciously.
Drawing on the experience of the industrial park network, the Roundtable helps with site selection. More on investing in Hungary.
